We're seeking qualified candidates to serve as our next Highway Superintendent.
The Town of Colrain, nestled in scenic Western Massachusetts, is seeking a dedicated Highway
Superintendent to oversee our rural roads and public works operations. This role calls for an
experienced professional who can skillfully guide a seasoned crew, maintain our beloved country
roads, and introduce modern best practices—all while honoring Colrain's close-knit community
spirit.
The Highway Superintendent oversees all aspects of roads, bridges, equipment, snow and ice
operations, and the Transfer Station. Reporting to the Town Administrator, you will join the
leadership team in maintaining and enhancing Colrain's infrastructure.
- Plan, organize, and supervise highway and public works operations.
- Manage and maintain town roads, culverts, bridges, fleet, and drainage systems.
- Lead snow-removal and winter maintenance efforts.
- Develop long-range capital improvement plans and annual budgets.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, regulations, and environmentally responsible
practices. - Adopt modern technologies, build sustainable materials practices and efficient operations.
- Collaborate with Town officials, boards, and the public to address community needs.
- A humble leader who listens, values hands-on knowledge, and fosters a positive crew
environment. - A forward-thinking professional open to innovation, new methods, and continuous
improvement. - An effective listener who communicates clearly with the crew, town officials, and residents, ensuring concerns are heard and addressed.

- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction/project management, or related field;
or equivalent education n and/or experience. - 7-10 years of relevant experience managing public works or highway operations
(municipal experience preferred). - Demonstrated computer literacy, competence in highway maintenance, equipment management, infrastructure planning, and an understanding of regulatory compliance.
- Valid Massachusetts Class B CDL; Hoisting license or ability to obtain within 180 days.
